Thanksgiving 2012 Recap

thanksgiving tableHappy Thanksgiving!

OK, I want to hear all of the delicious food that was on your menu for Thanksgiving dinner! This year Fabi and I spent Thanksgiving dinner at my parents’ house. We had an amazing spread, cooked by my Mom and Grandma, this year. Every year I snack on all of the appetizers and drink so much apple cider that I amalmost too stuffed for dinner! Items on our Thanksgiving dinner menu this year included turkey (of course!), stuffing, green bean casserole, yams, mashed potatoes, and bread rolls.

Oh, and let me introduce you to the family pets! My parents got 2 new kittens this year and I got to finally meet them – they are soo adorable and so much fun to play with!

Wow, that all sounds fantastic!! We definitely had the usual turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, stuffing, etc. but there were a lot more twists on the general staple ingredients than I remembered–we had an Asian sticky rice stuffing, green beans in tomato sauce, a mint cranberry relish, curried pumpkin soup and this quinoa black bean salad with mint, parsley and a bunch of other herbs for my mostly vegan cousin. And for dessert, we had apple, cherry and pumpkin pie as well, plus this AMAZING nutella tart with nutella made from scratch! Hoo man. So much great food. Glad you had a great Thanksgiving!

This year was our very first to cook a turkey, and we’ve been married 25 years! I know, seems kinda weird, but we’ve always gone to my Mom’s or my aunts (a BIG family!). My Mom passed away this April, so now it’s just my family and my brother’s.

We wrapped the turkey in aluminum foil and put it on the grill of a fire pit with mesquite charcoal… and it was done in 3 hours and moist and YUMMY!!!!! We’re so proud of ourselves! We had homemade cranberry sauce (left from when my Mom made it), and sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, stuffing, salad, rolls, pickles and olives… and a Texas chocolate sheet cake and a pumpkin bundt cake!
