One of my favorite childhood memories is making pancakes with my Grandpa on Sundays. For a long time now, I have been searching for the best chocolate chip pancake recipe from scratch, and after many trials and errors, I have finally created the PERFECT chocolate chip pancake recipe, fluffy with just the right amount of sweetness-I’m talking better than IHOP :)! These are easy to make with ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen.

Type: Breakfast
Serves: 2
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp butter, melted
- 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
- 3.5 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1.5 tbsp granulated sugar
- ½ tsp vanilla
- 1.25 cups milk
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp water
- ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- In a 1 liter glass measuring cup or large bowl, microwave 3 tbsp butter until melted (~45 seconds).
- Add flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar and stir together with a whisk.
- Add vanilla, milk, egg and water and whisk for about 3 minutes. It is important that the mixture is very well blended with no lumps in the batter.
- Heat skillet over medium heat. Spray with nonstick cooking spray, and pour about ¼ cup mixture into center of heated skillet.
- Immediately add ~10-15 chocolate chips on top, and wait until holes form in the batter. Check the bottom with a spatula to make sure the pancake does not burn. If it burns before done cooking (holes in batter), lower the heat a little.
- Once holes form in the batter, flip the pancake and cook for about 2 minutes. Both sides should be browned.
- Garnish with powdered sugar and syrup and enjoy!
Makes 6 medium sized pancakes.
I stumbled upon your blog when I was trying to find the “slutty brownie” recipe and I’m so glad I did! I love all of your recipes and will be trying many of them soon! Thanks!
i love this but im not trying to make batter i just want tk know were i should put the choclate chip pancakes
I found your recipe moments before preparing breakfast for my family. I could not resist upon reading your comment. YOU ARE RIGHT! This recipe is better than IHOP and my 16 yr old says better than Denny’s. Thank you, my pancakes were DELISH. You helped calm our nerves as we braced for Tropical Storm Issac in Miami, FL. I recommend adding more morsels and using whipped cream instead of syrup.
Absolutely delicious! Light, fluffy, just sweet enough, not overpowering. I loved them! I served them this New Years Day breakfast and they were a hit! I love modern technology! Here I am in Maine wanting a recipe for pancakes. I have made them a million times and pretty much knew, but thought there might be something different. Different indeed! I found a delightful recipe on a site from a woman in San Francisco! I can’t wait to try some of the other recipes. I’m convinced they will be equally impressive!
I just made these and I could never get the lumps out despite following the directions exactly. Do you have any tips? I whisked the batter for 3 minutes, if not more trying to get rid of the lumps with no luck.
Hi Erin! If you sift the flour before, it is less likely that you will have lumps. When I have stubborn lumps, I usually throw the batter in my blender and that seems to take care of the problem. Xo Kristianne
So i came across your recipe because i was really in the mood for some chocolate chip pancakes!! Let me just tell ya these are amazing!! They’re just the right amount of sweetness and they’re fluffy and just perfect!!!
I’m gonna browse around your site for other recipes now! 🙂
Thank you!!!!
Hi Bianca!
I am so happy to hear you enjoyed the recipe! Thanks for your comment!
Thank you for this wonderful chocolate chip pancake recipe. We are expats in Russia and miss good American breakfasts! The pancakes are so light and fluffy! Flavor is incredible! Better than any restaurant!!!
Thanks for your comment, Shonna! 🙂
Hi Kristianne, we are now in Belgium and still eating your pancakes 10 years later. Great recipe!
I made this because my kids love these in restraunts figured be a fun treat. Omg so delish. My batter wasn’t lump free I sifted flour, mixed beyond 3 min but they came out wonderfully! Kids devoured them. Lol thx its a keeper.
I made these for my family this morning. I can honestly say they were the best pancakes ive had yet and ive tried so many recipes. They are fluffy and not to sweet. They were all eaten before I could sit down!!!!
Thank you Rachel!!
I used my blender to get all the lumps out and wound up with a lovely batter… actually not sure how you would ever achieve this without a blender… I sifted my ingredients and everything….
These were great with both chocolate chips and with blueberries… but the real winner for my kid was normal and mini chocolate chips. Also I froze the extras between sheets of parchment paper and they microwaved beautifully in 30 secs the next day. I just did one at a time, and waited for him to eat them before I did the next since microwaving bread is always sketchy if you don’t eat it right away. These were great!!! Thanks so much!!
